We understand that moles and other skin abnormalities on the face or neck can be unpleasant to experience and cause a lower self-esteem. What may not be noticeable to others can certainly be noticeable to you as you see your appearance up close and on a daily basis.
There’s also some concern you may be experiencing– is this mole normal? Could there be something else going on under the skin?
Normal moles can differ in size, color, and shape and can be found anywhere on the skin. Some of the characteristics of a normal mole are:
Atypical moles can also appear anywhere on the body, but will rarely be on the face. Their appearance may cause concern for melanoma as they have similar attributes, but they are not cancerous despite showing:
Although these atypical moles are benign, they are at an increased risk of developing skin cancer. You may be at a higher risk for melanoma if you have numerous atypical moles or an immediate family history of melanoma.
Not all moles need treatment. But if you feel that a mole you have is unsightly or making you feel uncomfortable, we can perform removal as a cosmetic procedure even if we have determined that it’s not a risk for skin cancer.
Moles and skin lesions can be removed in the office under local anesthesia and are a relatively straightforward outpatient procedure. Depending on the size and unique makeup of the mole, our team could perform a shave excision procedure or a punch biopsy in the matter of minutes.
Both Dr. Potozkin and Dr. Ellis have vast experience in skin cancer treatment and mole removal. Whether it’s a part of a treatment protocol or just for cosmetic reasons, both are able to identify and treat normal and abnormal moles.
Both also specialize in minimally-invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures as well. This will be able to minimize the potential of an unsightly scar formation during or after the procedure. We ensure the most aesthetically-pleasing results as possible.
Any type of removal or repair of the skin will require vast experience and delicate hands. It’s important to find a board-certified dermatologist or surgeon that you trust when it comes to making any type of mole removals, scar revisions, or skin corrections.
Though most moles are benign and not dangerous, it’s important to seek medical advice if you experience a mole that suddenly changes in size, shape or color, or bleeds, itches or becomes painful.
We recommend getting your routine skin check regularly. In between exams, it’s important that you are performing self-checks on yourself as detecting skin cancer early is the single most important factor.
The next step is to book your consultation if you’d like to have a mole or skin lesion examined. We will often be able to perform your routine skin check during this time to ensure other concerns are not missed.
“Our practice philosophy is simple — to deliver the very best care we can in the very best way we can. To us, that means we make each and every patient feel welcomed from the moment that they walk in the door until they leave the office. It means that we listen to what the patient has to say and address those concerns. It means we give advice and recommend treatments based on our extensive training with leaders in the field, our wealth of personal experience, and our commitment to excellence. For our cosmetic patients, it means working with the patient to achieve results that look natural, not overdone or exaggerated. It means that we always strive to do the right thing for the patient, as we value very highly ethics, honesty, and integrity. It means we stand behind what we do and will do everything in our power to get the best results we can for the patient. It means we carefully select the highest quality staff to represent us and help us carry out these goals. Lastly and most importantly, it means that we treat the patient the way we would want ourselves to be treated, with respect and kindness. Because at the end of the day, without all of our loyal patients, we wouldn’t have a practice.”

"Dr. Potozkin and his team are the best! My skin issues/problems have drastically improved since I have been coming to this Doctor-over 5, maybe even 10 years. His staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The office is a flagship store that sells my favorite skin repair and healing products- by SkinCeuticals. I don’t live near this office, but I would never go anywhere else even if it’s closer. Absolutely worth the trip. The results are real!"
