Jerome R. Potozkin M.D. is proud to offer Mohs surgery for skin cancer patients. Mohs surgery is considered to be the most effective technique in treating various skin cancers. Dr. Potozkin has been performing Mohs Micrographic Surgery since completing a Mohs Surgery Fellowship at U.C.S.F. This process works by removing all cancerous cells for the highest cure rate while sparing as much healthy tissue as possible. Mohs Surgery is usually performed for skin cancers on the head and neck, recurrent skin cancers and larger skin cancers
Mohs surgery is performed in stages during one visit. During your appointment, I will remove a layer of tissue in stages. In between each stage, you will be asked to wait while I examine your sample. If any cancer cells remain, I’ll know what areas to target and will continue to remove another layer of tissue. I will repeat this process until no cancer cells remain. This process allows the highest cure rate while minimizing the size of the defect. At time of your Mohs Surgery Consultation we will fully educate you about the procedure as well as any reconstructive option needed to repair the wound.
