Radiesse®

What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse | Jerome Potozkin Danville CARadiesse® is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body’s natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction.

Areas Treated

Radiesse® can be used on many areas of the body, including:

  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Peri-oral lines
  • Depressed scars
  • Oral commissures

How does Radiesse® work?

There are two ways in which Radiesse supports younger-looking skin. First, this product immediately restores volume to the treatment area. Over time, the gel component of the filler is absorbed into surrounding tissue. This leaves the microspheres behind to act as a scaffolding to the connective tissue beneath the skin. During the 1 to 2 years that these tiny beadlets are gradually metabolized, they are also encouraging the restructuring of collagen for lasting results.

How long does Radiesse® procedure take?

Treatments typically take 15 minutes and require only local anesthetic.

Who can benefit from treatment with Radiesse?

Men and women of all skin tones and types can benefit from the volumizing, wrinkle-reducing Radiesse filler. Radiesse is typically recommended for thicker skin and for more significant folds and lines or for moderate volume loss across the cheeks. It is also possible that Radiesse may be a better treatment option for patients who have had dermal fillers before, and who are able to commit to the longevity of this product.

*Like other cosmetic treatments, Radiesse is not appropriate for pregnant women, or those who are breastfeeding. It is also important to discuss with your practitioner if you take blood-thinning medication or have a bleeding disorder.

Radiesse® Results

One of the most significant advantages of Radiesse treatment is that patients see their new look immediately, since swelling is minimal, if noticed at all. But that is not all. The fact that Radiesse has a foundation of calcium hydroxylapatite also means that facial contouring and the smoothness of the skin continue to improve as new, strong strands of collagen form around the microspheres. While every patient metabolizes filler products at a different rate, the average lifespan for Radiesse is 1 to 2 years. To maintain results, many patients schedule retreatment at the 18-month mark.

Radiesse® Side Effects

Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and should fade within a few days. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.
