Acne scars, spots, wrinkles, or unwanted marks have the potential to tarnish one’s confidence. Luckily, there are procedures available to lighten or remove the spots, resulting in fresh, young, and rejuvenated skin. A chemical peel is used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands.
During your procedure, a safe, FDA-approved solution will be applied to the desired areas. Usually after a few days, you can expect a layer of your skin to exfoliate and peel off, resulting in a fresh, new layer of skin. Please be advised that following this procedure, your skin will be extremely sensitive to sun exposure; it’s imperative to apply the sunscreen and moisturizer recommended by your provider.
Chemical peels come in different strengths or depths. These are typically classified as light, medium, or deep peels. We typically perform chemicals peels that are light to medium in depth. In our experience, we prefer the added precision of laser technology for people who may have considered deeper peels in the past. Chemical peeling is an art and has to be tailored to the individual. Special care must be given to darker skinned patients who are more prone to irregularities of pigmentation.
Please note that chemical peels are not advised for those who are nursing or pregnant, have taken Accutane within the last six months, have psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, or rosacea, or have used any acid-based skin products within the prior 48 hours.
Chemical peels should always be performed by a medical professional to ensure safe and effective treatment.
