Deciding to undergo cosmetic surgery isn’t something you enter into lightly. You may have concerns about the procedure, taking time off work and child care during recovery. These are definitely crucial things to think about before having the procedure, but the bigger question is are you ready? Preparing yourself for cosmetic surgery is important, and here are some things to consider to make sure you’re surgery-ready.
Check Your Health
Your doctor will want to make sure you’re in good health before scheduling any kind of surgery. That’s because being healthy as you can be makes for a better outcome. If you have uncontrolled blood glucose levels, you’re at risk of infections post-surgery, and if you have uncontrolled diabetes, it can slow healing. Work with your doctor to get conditions like these under control before taking the next step.
If you smoke, you put yourself at greater risk of complications after surgery. Smoking interferes with proper blood flow, which can lead to blood clots. Scarring in smokers can also be worse than non-smokers. If you smoke, talk to your doctor about a cessation program that may be right for you.
Take Care Of Yourself
Even if you don’t have any serious conditions that prohibit you from having cosmetic surgery, it’s a good idea to be more mindful of what you eat and how much sleep you’re getting. Cutting out junk food and soda in favor of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is a good start. And if you aren’t getting enough sleep, make it a point to start going to bed and getting up at the same time each day.
Ask A Lot Of Questions
Perhaps you’re too bashful to ask your surgeon questions or you may be worried about taking up too much of his or her time. Don’t be! Information is power, and the more you know about what to expect both during and after your procedure, the more confident you’ll feel about your decision and ability to recover. Your doctor is there to answer any questions you may have, so ask away.
