Fraxel® Laser Treatments
What is Fraxel Dual?
We use Fraxel Dual® 1550/1927 to help patients treat damaged skin and address issues like sun spots, wrinkles and other common signs of aging. The Fraxel® Dual treatment is a unique, noninvasive skin resurfacing procedure approved by the FDA and has been safely used by our office to improve skin health and texture for many of our patients.
Benefits of Fraxel Laser
Here are just some of the ways our patients have benefited from Fraxel Dual®:
- Improved tone and texture
- Reduced wrinkles around the eyes
- Removal of unwanted brown spots
- Improved appearance of surgical and acne scars
- Effective treatment of actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous lesions)
- Excellent treatment for even the most delicate skin
How Does Fraxel Laser Work?
Fraxel Dual® is a patented fractional technology that helps resurface skin by targeting damaged skin cells and stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. We can use the Fraxel® laser to target specific blemishes and imperfections for effective spot treatment. This approach doesn’t just refresh the skin, but helps address visible problem areas that cannot be effectively treated with more general treatment options.
The Fraxel Dual®1550/1927 has the unique benefit of two separate treatment modes that target different skin layers by using different laser frequencies. This versatility allows us to further customize treatment options for different skin problems.
1550 Fraxel Dual® Laser
Our 1550 Fraxel Dual laser frequency penetrates deep into the dermal layers of the skin, to specifically target aging skin concerns, such as wrinkles or acne scarring. This makes Fraxel Dual® very effective because dermal layers are the root of many skin issues, as that is where the collagen and elastin fiber networks form the skin’s foundation.
1927 Fraxel Dual® Laser
Our 1927 Fraxel Dual® laser frequency targets the epidermal skin layers to improve skin tone, texture, and smoothness. The results are much more subtle, but when combined with the 1550 frequency yield stunning results because skin is treated at all layers of the skin.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Results of Fraxel Dual® are both immediate and progressive, with most patients noticing significant improvement after a single treatment. However, it’s important to understand that multiple treatments will likely be necessary to reach your aesthetic goals, and most patients achieve their desired outcome after a series of 5 treatments.
Over the following weeks and months, patients notice the following as the skin begins to heal itself:
- Skin tightening
- Pigmentation improvements
Results can last for up to one year after treatment, and can be extended with a touch up laser session.
What is Fraxel Repair Light?
Fraxel Repair Light is a gentler treatment that is best for slight to moderate imperfections such as the following:
- Eye wrinkles
- Fine lines
- Up to moderate acne scarring
- Loss of skin elasticity
- Rough skin texture
It is also easiest on more delicate areas such as the chest and neck. Those who have less severe facial lines and wrinkles will want to explore their treatment options with the erbium laser.
This treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and has almost no associated down time. The Fraxel Repair Light laser relies on a 1550 frequency and can produce an improvement in skin appearance without excessive blistering, skin peeling, or other side effects.
How Does Fraxel Repair Light Work?
The Fraxel Repair light is not a resurfacing laser in the traditional sense, in that it doesn’t cause micro damage on the skin surface. Instead, the Repair laser was designed to penetrate the skin at deeper levels, where it can stimulate the growth of collagen and produce a skin tightening effect over time. Additionally, this device can target melanin-rich skin cells, to reduce visible hyperpigmentation.
Though causing micro damage may initially seem counter intuitive, the laser works by stimulating the body’s healing processes, which produces more collagen. Further, the Repair light laser destroys some of the pigmented cells at the treatment site, which brightens dark spots.
Fraxel Repair Light Recovery
To shorten recovery times, the Fraxel Repair light laser relies on a fractional technology. This means that the laser beams are delivered in columns, thus treating only a fraction of the skin at once. The fractional approach is a significant improvement over older skin laser technology, as it reduces healing times and post-treatment discomfort.
Fraxel Repair CO2
The Fraxel Repair CO2, or the Fractional Microablative CO2 laser, has been touted as the biggest breakthrough in wrinkle removal in the last 5 to 10 years and a “mini medical miracle”. According to realself.com, 86% of consumers that underwent Fraxel Repair CO2 report satisfaction with the procedure.
Fraxel Repair CO2 is a significantly more aggressive treatment option because it “vaporizes” tissue on the skin’s surface. This stimulates more dramatic recovery results. It yields superior results in the treatment of severe sun damage, deeper lines, wrinkles and acne scars. It also requires a more extensive recovery period. We recommend at least 10-14 days of “social downtime”.
The Fraxel Repair CO2 laser system is currently approved by the FDA to treat:
- Loss of skin elasticity
- Sun-induced redness
- Sun and age spots
- Irregular texture
Fraxel Repair CO2 is a true non-surgical alternative to more invasive surgical and resurfacing procedures: it reduces the risks and recovery time associated with facelifts or other resurfacing procedures significantly. It is also considered a potentially preventative treatment that can eliminate the need for facelifts entirely.
How Fraxel Repair CO2 Technology Works
The advanced technology of the Fraxel Repair CO2 laser system offers deeper dermal laser penetration (depths of 1.6mm) than traditional treatments, and is delivered by laser pulses in fractional patterns. The laser vaporizes tiny columns of tissue on the skin’s surface while leaving the surrounding tissue untreated. This method stimulates the body’s natural skin cell and collagen regenerative responses. It also spurs faster healing to reduce the pain and recovery time that is needed with traditional vaporizing treatments. This Fraxel technology is effective not just for your face, but also your neck, shoulders, arms, hands and other parts of the body.
Treatment & Recovery Time with Fraxel CO2
Fraxel Repair CO2 treatment is usually performed as a single treatment, typically with 10-14 days of downtime. The procedure usually takes an hour. We perform the procedure with a mild oral sedative in combination with local anesthesia.
Recovery symptoms are typically reported as similar to those of a mild sunburn. There is initial swelling and reddening of the skin that can last for approximately ten days. Your skin will naturally “shed” as new tissue replaces the old. A common recovery symptom is a “bronzing” appearance to your skin for anywhere between 3 days to two weeks, depending on how deep your treatment is.
