BOTOX®/ Dysport/ Xeomin
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country and one of our most requested services. Quick, safe and effective, BOTOX® reduces or eliminates facial lines and wrinkles for up to six months with no downtime or surgery and little to no discomfort. Commonly known as the “lunchtime procedure”, a quick treatment within our Danville office will help to alleviate unwanted fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox Treatment Areas
Through a series of tiny injections, BOTOX gives you a rejuvenated look by smoothing the following areas:
- Crow’s feet beneath the eyes,
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Horizontal lines across the forehead
- Worry lines around the mouth
- Lines on the neck.
Botox also helps treat excessive sweating on certain parts of the body.
How Does BOTOX® Work?
BOTOX® is made from a highly purified protein that is very safe when administered by a trained physician. The medication relaxes the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. In this way, BOTOX® smoothes the lines in the skin that make you look tired or angry.
Botox Cosmetic Procedure
Dr. Potozkin administers Botox injections directly into the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other wrinkles. These injections are generally painless and do not require anesthesia, although a numbing agent may be used to help minimize any discomfort for patients who are anxious about the procedure. Treatment sessions usually take less than 15 minutes to perform and are administered at six-week intervals
Does Botox Cause Bruising?
Bruising is always a possibility when an injection is made under the skin. Although our Danville practice administers Botox with a small needle to minimize the likelihood of bruising, it can still appear within one to two days of treatment. Bruises occur when the blood vessel is poked with the needle, as they are hard to see. Dr. Potozkin understands the hassle of bruising and has introduced Accuvein to eliminate the likelihood of bruising with Botox injections.

Accuvein is used within hospitals to help locate veins for IV placement. This device is able to digitally reproject the veins in real time to make the veins visible for the injector. Dr. Potozkin is able to visualize the veins, allowing him to not only avoid veins, but minimize the chances of bleeding and bruising!
BOTOX® Treatment for Excessive Sweating
Hyperhidrosis is a common condition that involves excessive sweating of certain parts of the body, including the face, hands, feet, and underarms. Those with this condition often need prescription-strength antiperspirants to control sweating and may have to change clothes frequently or avoid wearing certain fabrics.
Hyperhidrosis can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, which block the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, significantly reducing the amount of sweat produced. Most patients notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating in 4 weeks, with results lasting for more than 6 months. Although symptoms gradually return, results can be maintained with routine follow-up treatments.
How Long Does It Take For Botox To Work?
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.
Xeomin is a form of botulinum toxin type A that can be injected into the muscles just beneath the skin to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Particularly effective in treating deep frown lines between the eyebrows, Xeomin has received FDA approval.
Like other types of botulinum treatments, Xeomin prevents muscles from contracting. However, Xeomin is different from its predecessors in that it contains no additives, which may decrease a patient’s antibody reaction. If the immune system is not creating antibodies to fight it, the treatment will be much more successful.
Xeomin® Treatment Areas
Xeomin, a common alternative to Botox helps treat the following conditions found in adults:
- Cervical dystonia (involuntary neck muscle contractions)
- Blepharospasm (involuntary closure of the eyelids)
- Moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows
How Soon Will I See Results?
Results of Xeomin treatment are typically evident in one week and last between three and six months.
What is Dysport®?
Dysport is an FDA-approved injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting.
Side Effects and Risks

- Pain at the injection site may occur
