Keeping your skin hydrated may take more effort than you’re used to after a deep laser resurfacing treatment. Your skin will likely be extra thirsty after a laser treatment, so be prepared to bring along some moisturizer when you head back to work. Adding an occlusive layer (such as Vaseline) after your moisturizer can help your skin stay hydrated, too. If it’s too sticky, a thin layer at night can help keep your skin moist and supple, too.
Depending on how deep your laser treatment was, we may recommend that you skip makeup for a day or two to let your skin breathe. Also, the harsh scrubbing that is sometimes required to remove heavy makeup may lead to your skin taking longer to heal. Light, mineral makeup might be best if you feel you need to wear something. Be gentle with your skin for the first few days, and it will thank you.
Though it may be difficult, leaving your skin alone to heal is the best option after a deep resurfacing laser peel. The shedding that can occur with deep treatments (such as with the Fraxel CO2 treatment) is natural and means that the new skin underneath is on its way. Picking or peeling at the old skin can cause hyperpigmentation or other issues. Letting it peel naturally is the best way to give you results.
Sunscreen is so important when it comes to your new layer of fresh skin. Keep wrinkles and sun spots at bay by wearing sunscreen everyday. Feel free to wear a hat or use an umbrella to keep rays at bay, too.
