Pores: What exactly are they?

The tiny little dots you see on the surface of your skin are not dots at all. They’re small openings of hair follicles that cover our skin (yes, even on female faces). Each pore contains one sebaceous gland, which helps produce your skin’s moisturizing oils.

What causes large pores?

Pore size generally is determined by genetics. For example, those with more fair skin are more likely to have smaller pores. People with olive or darker skin will likely have slightly larger pores. But, that’s not the only factor in pore size. Your skin type can also lead to larger pores. If your skin is on the drier side, your pores will likely be less noticeable. Do you have oilier skin? Then you probably have more visible pores. Don’t worry if you have oilier skin, though. Oilier skin can sometimes help you age more gracefully!

What can I do to shrink my pores?
