Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes.
The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia and lasts 45 minutes to a few hours depending on how much work is done. Incisions are made along the eyelids in inconspicuous places (in the creases of the upper lids, and just below the lashes on the lower lids). Dr. Potozkin removes excess tissue through these incisions and then stitches them closed with fine sutures. For lower lids we perform transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid and there are no visible scars.
Stitches are removed after seven days and most people return to work in ten. Contact lenses may not be worn for two weeks. The effects of blepharoplasty can last for a long time and are sometimes even permanent.
Also called micro-lipoinjection or fat transplantation, autologous fat transfer involves the removal and relocation of the patient's own body fat to plump up an area that has lost volume as a result of surgery, injury, aging or another cause. Fat is removed through a mini liposuction, often from the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. It is then processed and injected into the area being treated. Both sites are numbed with local anesthesia.
The procedure is commonly used for volume replacement and crease reduction. Because the transplanted fat comes from the patient, it does not carry a risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Other advantages include a short recovery time, long-lasting results and effectiveness on any skin type.
We are proud to offer patients our extensive experience and expertise in liposuction, the single most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. today. Liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Liposuction not only offers the opportunity to slim and contour chubby areas of the body; by removing the fat cells, it also ensures that these areas will not accumulate fatty deposits in the future.
Dr. Potozkin knows that all patients are different, both in their body shapes and in what they wish to achieve with liposuction. We take as much time as necessary during every pre-operative consultation to learn what each patient wants liposuction to do for them, and to decide which technique is best. In this way, every one of our patients enjoys completely customized treatment designed with his or her specific goals in mind.
The liposuction procedure begins with the injection of a solution composed of saline (salt water), a local anesthetic called lidocaine, and a small amount of adrenaline to decrease bruising and bleeding. This is known as tumescent liposuction, Once this solution has been introduced into the area planned for liposuction treatment, the doctor proceeds by extracting the fat through small incisions using micro-cannulas. The liposuction procedure may last from two to three hours, depending on the amount of fat being removed. We perform tumescent liposuction with local anesthesia only. This had been proven time and time again to be the safest way of performing liposuction, eliminating the greater risks associated with general anesthesia.
After liposuction surgery, compression garments and antibiotics may be needed to facilitate the healing process. Patients usually return to work within a few days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about two weeks.
Results are visible over several weeks, and improvement often continues as swelling subsides during the first three months.
We make sure that scars from the liposuction cannula insertion point are small and inconspicuous.
