Top Tips for Maintaining Healthy Skin This Winter

Dec 30 2016

winter skin care danville | skin care caJack Frost not only nips at your nose during the winter months; the dry, chilly air he brings depletes the moisture in your skin, leaving it cracked, red and itchy. But take heart – there are ways to protect your skin against the harsh winter weather.

  1. Drink Lots of Water

Even though a cool drink may not sound inviting in the freezing temperatures, it’s still essential that you keep yourself hydrated by drinking water. Aim for eight glasses a day to keep your fluid intake consistent and your skin looking healthy.

  2. Cover Up

Gloves and scarves are the order of the day when the weather outside is frightful. Be sure to bundle up any exposed skin before you brave the cold in order to protect against frostbite and windburn.

  3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

One of the best ways to keep your skin hydrated during the winter months is by applying moisturizer. It’s best to moisturize immediately after showering to enhance absorption, and then immediately cover the area with clothing to prevent evaporation.

  4. Wear Sunscreen

The sun’s harmful UV rays are a constant, even in the winter time. When the sun reflects off of the snow and ice, it can do just as much damage to your skin as it could in the summer months. Be sure to apply sunscreen to your face and other exposed areas of skin daily to protect against sun damage.

  5. Avoid Hot Baths

It sounds luxurious to languish in a hot bath or shower, but hot water doesn’t do your skin any favors. It depletes the natural moisture in your skin. Opt for lukewarm showers and baths instead.
