What is Restylane®?
Approved by the FDA, Restylane is designed to match your skin, smoothing wrinkles, sculpting lips or shaping facial contours. With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane is able to perform for many months in your skin.
Common area treated
The most common areas for a Restylane treatment are the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth). When used for lips or facial contouring, Restylane will add shape and volume to the area.
Dr. Potozkin is committed to creating a natural looking fuller lip. We believe that if it is obvious that you have had your lips filled because they look unnatural or “duck like” then you are better off not having them filled in the first place. Restylane is able to create volume under your wrinkles, which are then lifted up and smoothed out.
How does Restylane® injections work?
Restylane injections are administered using topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort and are delivered directly into the skin of the affected area to fill in the wrinkles, fine lines and folds that develop over time. Injections usually take 15 to 20 minutes to perform, after which patients can immediately return to work and other regular activities.
Most people find the injections relatively painless, but a topical anesthetic can be applied to the area prior to your treatment. You will be able to see the results as soon as your treatment is completed.
How soon will I see results?
The results will be seen immediately.
How long does Restylane® last?
The length of time the effects of a Restylane treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, and the degree of perfection demanded and the injection technique of the practitioner. Experience indicates that touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to the duration. Most people choose to have a new treatment within a year after the treatment of wrinkles and folds and within 6 months after a lip enhancement.
What to expect after Restylane® Treatment
During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment.
You should not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing) or extreme cold for the first few days after the treatment in order to avoid the risk of inflammation as the area has been disturbed. However, once Restylane has integrated into the body, it will adjust to your normal body temperature.
What is Restylane® Lyft?
Restylane Lyft is an injectable filler used to effectively fill lost volume and reduce the appearance of deeper folds for patients unhappy with the effects of aging on their skin. Made of hyaluronic acid, Restylane Lyft is similar in consistency to Restylane®, but contains larger gel particles that help lift and fill deeper depressions. Hyaluronic acid is a transparent gel that is found naturally in the body and gives the skin its fullness. Over time, hyaluronic acid levels naturally decrease and cause the skin to sag and depress. Injecting this substance into the skin can fill these depressions and restore the skin back to its original fullness.
The results of a Restylane injection are visible right away and can last for six to eight months, depending on the condition of each patient’s skin, as well as their age and lifestyle. Results can be maintained through touch-up injections administered once or twice each year. As treatment continues, results tend to last longer with less need for maintenance treatments.
Restylane® Side Effects
While you may experience side effects such as swelling, redness, bruising and discomfort after treatment, these side effects are usually mild and will go away on their own within a few days. Restylane is considered safe for most patients, but does carry a risk of infection, bleeding or allergic reaction. Your doctor will discuss these risks with you prior to treatment.
