Juvederm Volbella

If you asked what thVolbella | Dr. Jerome Potozkin Danville CAey considered to be the most visible signs of aging most people would probably say “wrinkles”. And, while it’s true that sun damage and other issues of aging do create more and more wrinkles, there’s really more telling sign of aging that people don’t think about – Volume loss.

When you go back through a photo collection and look at your face in your early 20’s and in your late 40’s and 50’s, You’ll notice volume loss probably more than wrinkling.Your cheeks have flattened. The area around your mouth has sunken somewhat. And your lips have become thinner.

There are two culprits here: Collagen and Elastin. Both of these proteins are tasked with the quality of your skin. Collagen supplies the structural support, while elastin keeps the skin soft and pliable. The problem with these proteins is that as we age the body produces less and less of them. After your turn 20, for instance, your body makes one percent less collagen every year. At 50 you’re producing 30 percent less. No wonder your skin appears saggy and unsupported.

Your lips aren’t immune. The plump, shapely lips of our youth give way to thinner lips with vertical lines in them. Again, volume loss is the problem.

What is Juvederm Volbella?

Juvederm® provides an entire family of dermal fillers whose job is to address volume loss in various areas of the face. The newest addition to that family is Juvederm Volbella® XC, which is formulated to add subtle volume to the lips and soften the appearance of vertical lip lines. Juvederm Volbella was approved by the FDA in the summer of 2016.

How do Juvederm ® fillers replace lost volume?

Juvederm originally started with a single dermal filler now called Juvederm XC. This was intended for volume loss around the mouth that creates nasolabial folds and parentheses lines. Next came Voluma, now called Juvederm Voluma XC. It was formulated to address volume loss in your cheeks.

Then Juvederm turned its focus to the lips, first with Juvederm Ultra XC. Ultra XC was formulated to add fullness to the lips, wether the lips had thinned with age or were always thinner that the patient desired.

Next came Juvederm Volbella XC in summer 2016 to add some subtlety to volume replacement in the lips. Its results are soft and supple and don’t appear overdone.

All the Juvederm fillers are hyaluronic acid based. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is responsible for the hydrating and plumping the skin. All four Juvederm fillers plump the skin and lips in the same way. When  injected, the hyaluronic acid in the filler binds with water molecules in the area to firm the skin, add volume, and fill wrinkles

Would Juvéderm Volbella ® XC be right for me?

Juvederm Volbella XC is only for the lips, alog with Juvederm Ultra XC. But they address different issues. Ultra is for visibly plumping the lips. Juvederm Volbella XC adds subtle volume to the lips and smoothes those irritating vertical lip lines that form as we got older.

So, if your lips are thinner than you like, either from volume loss or just because they’ve been that way your entire life, Juvederm Volbella XC is a way to subtly increase their size and remove wrinkles. It will give you fuller, Shapelier lips, but your results will look natural, not extreme.

What is a treatment session like?

A Juvederm Volbella XC session with Dr. Potozkin usually only takes around 30 minutes. The filler is injected with a very tiny needle. Because Juvederm Volbella XC has lidocaine in its formula, there isn’t any need for pre-treatment topical anethetic.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Your results are immediate with Juvederm Volbella XC. Those results will last up to one year. At that time, your body will begin to absorb the filler and you’ll need to schedule another session to maintain your result. Research has shown that subsequent sessions requires less product to achieve the same results. Research with Juvederm Volbella XC has shown that 80 percent of people treated are more satisfied with the appearance of their lips one year after treatment.

Are there side effects with Juvéderm Volbella ® XC?

Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is the basis of Juvederm fillers, allergic reactions are virtually unheard of. Side effects are mild and uncommon. They include swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, redness, itching, dryness, and discomfort at the injection sites. They usually pass in one to two days, but can last up to 30 days.
