Most Popular Anti-Aging Cosmetic Treatments

Smiling, laughing, frowning and each of your facial expressions use your facial muscles. As you age, this muscle usage causes furrows and wrinkles in your skin, particularly around your mouth and eyes, on your forehead and between your eyebrows. However, there are cosmetic treatments available to not only prevent the formation of these signs of aging but also to erase these signs if they have already formed.

Injectable Procedures

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic: As the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States, BOTOX offers a safe, quick and effective procedure for reducing lines and wrinkles. It uses many tiny injections to reduce (and may even eliminate) these wrinkles and facial lines for 6 months. The procedure gives you very little, if any, discomfort and can be used to deal with many signs of aging on your face and neck regions. It is derived from purified protein and works by relaxing your facial muscles. While it is generally used for the purpose mentioned here, BOTOX can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (a condition involving excessive sweating). Sweating reduces considerably in just 4 weeks and the effects last for six months, beyond which regular follow-ups will be necessary.
  • Dysport®: Approved by the FDA, this injection treatment also reduces lines and wrinkles in your forehead. Just like BOTOX, Dysport is injected into the site of the problem directly. This treatment takes no more than 15 minutes, does not require an anesthetic and is administered in intervals of six weeks. There may, however, be some side effects like allergic reactions, bruising and headache for sometime after the injections, or ptosis (droopy eyelids). Changes can be seen within a week.
