JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel

Juvederm | Walnut Creek | DanvilleJUVÉDERM Injectable Gel is a smooth consistency gel capable of restoring volume to skin and smoothing away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps add volume and hydration.

What are the Benefits of JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM is a safe, effective, non-surgical option for those that want to diminish the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles. It is non-animal dermal filler of smooth consistency that, unlike most hyaluronic acid fillers, which have granular consistencies, allows for easy injection and instantly natural results.

JUVÉDERM Ultra allows for versatility in contouring and volumizing wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus is for correcting deeper and more severe wrinkles and folds. This allows for a completely personalized treatment tailored by your healthcare professionals to meet your needs. The results make you look naturally younger, refreshed and can last up to one year. JUVÉDERM is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color.

Procedure & Recovery Time

The injection itself usually takes approximately 15 minutes.

Although anesthesia is not required, your doctor may use a topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area. JUVÉDERM Injectable Gel will be injected under your skin to add volume or fill wrinkles and folds. After the injection, your doctor may gently massage the treated areas.

There is minimal recovery time with JUVÉDERM. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites.

Some temporary symptoms, such as redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps may occur but usually clear up on their own within a week. Any swelling at the injection site can be minimized with an ice pack for a brief period. Your healthcare provider will tell you when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

What are the results?

Most patients see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas and only need one treatment to achieve optimal results. Results may vary and touch up treatments may be required to maintain results, but JUVÉDERM can smooth lines and wrinkles for up to a year.

Sculptra®

Sculptra | Walnut Creek | DanvilleSculptra is an injectable product that corrects the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) by restoring lost volume in the skin. Lipoatrophy can result in sunken cheeks, indentations and hollow eyes. Injected into the deep dermis layer of the skin, Sculptra provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. Note that Sculptra does not treat lipoatrophy, but it does compensate for its effects.

What is Sculptra® made of? Is it safe?

Sculptra's main component is an alpha hydroxy acid called poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. It is safe, synthetic (artificially created), biocompatible (can be used harmlessly in the body), biodegradable (able to be broken down in the body) and long-lasting. PLLA has been used for more than 20 years in many surgical products, including dissolvable sutures and soft tissue implants.

Who is a candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is FDA-approved for the treatment of aging, wrinkled facial skin, and is considered safe and effective for most patients seeking to achieve a more youthful, natural-looking appearance with subtle, yet noticeable results. Sculptra should not be used in patients who have active skin infections or inflammation (swelling) in the area to be treated, or who are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Do I need a skin test?

No skin testing is required.

What will happen on the day of treatment?

At your Sculptra treatment session, you will be asked to remove any makeup, and the area of skin to be treated will be swabbed clean. You and your doctor will discuss whether to use a local or topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. Then, your doctor will administer Sculptra in a series of injections with a very fine needle. Afterwards, you will be given an ice pack to reduce swelling. It is important to massage the treated area to ensure that the material is evenly distributed beneath the skin.

When will I see the results of my Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra's effects are not immediate. Improvement in skin volume occurs gradually.

Will I need more than one treatment?

More than one treatment may be necessary to achieve the best results. Patients with more severe lipoatrophy generally need additional injections. In your follow-up appointment a few weeks after your first Sculptra session, your doctor will determine whether you need a touch-up treatment.

How long do the effects last?

The results of Sculptra® vary from patient to patient. In a clinical study, the effects were shown to last for up to two years after the first treatment session in most patients.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients experience side effects from Sculptra injections. These may include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. Side effects usually fade within a few days or even a few hours, although they can last longer. Massage and ice pack application to the treatment area reduce swelling. Strong sun and UV exposure should be avoided until swelling and redness have subsided.

Some patients develop small bumps under the skin in the treatment area. These may appear in the first six to twelve months after the first injection. They may be visibly red, or, more often, they may only be felt by pressing on the area.

How soon I can go back to my normal activities?

There is little to no downtime after a Sculptra treatment. Most patients return to their normal activities immediately.

Radiesse®

Radiesse | Walnut Creek | DanvilleRadiesse® is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body's natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the body, including the lips, nasolabial folds, peri-oral lines, depressed scars and oral commissures.

Treatments typically take 15 minutes and require only local anesthetic. Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and should fade within a few days. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.
