Top 4 Treatments for Vein Removal

Jan 29 2015

For those with noticeable and unsightly veins in their lower extremities, there are a few options in vein removal treatments. The severity and prominence of the veins will determine which procedure is best for successful removal. Each of the following vein removal treatments vary in effectiveness as well as recovery time and level of pain or discomfort experienced by the patient.

Popular Vein Removal Treatments

  1. Ambulatory Phlebectomy is performed on an out-patient basis under local anesthesia. Although this procedure is relatively safe, patients are urged to follow post-operative care instructions closely. Compression garments must be worn following the procedure to promote healing and to decrease the risk for blood clots.
  2. Sclerotherapy is a procedure in which injections are placed directly into affected veins. These injections cause irritation which collapses the veins, which are eventually absorbed by the body. This procedure is considered relatively painless, and has been in practice since the 1930s. This treatment is very effective and procedures desired results for most patients.
  3. Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy is similar to visible sclerotherapy, however considerably more difficult to perform. However, Dr. Brar is highly skilled in this technique and has numerous years of experience. Results are often considered favorable for most patients.
  4. CoolTouch Endovenous Laser Ablation has an extremely positive success rate– as high as 98-100 percent. Patients find this procedure to be tolerable, and causes minimal pain if any at all. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Of all the vein removal procedures, CoolTouch is considered the least invasive, allowing patients to carry on with their normal low-impact activities and daily schedule the same day as the procedure.
